The Xbox and especially the PS2 made the GameCube, which was born out of Nintendo’s ambition to be as powerful as them, almost impossible, but this game came a little too late and came about through a commitment to a special disc format known as GOD (GameCube Optical Disc).

We’ve known this for a long time Nintendo GameCube prototype named Dolphinbut so far no photos of this original machine have been seen. Now they’ve released the first one on Twitter @consolevariations , promising more to come.

As they explain in the message, this prototype is so special that they haven’t been able to upload photos of it online yet, but they promise to upload more images soon.

As you can see in the image, although the design generally matches the last version that went on sale, there are some differences. One of the most striking is the logo.

It was clear that the name GameCube had already been decided for the final console, which was a combination of the letters “Ges” at the bottom. Despite this logo, the prototype was not called that, but “Nintendo Dolphin”.

The colors on this prototype are more similar to the purple of the Nintendo 64. The much lower quality controller connectors in the second image were the same shape as the Nintendo 64, but inverted. On the final console, these connectors were completely round.

The prototype’s name ‘Dolphin’, interestingly enough, was used for the well-known emulator of this console, which also tried to reach iOS now that emulators are allowed, but Apple put up many obstacles to make this happen.

Of course other consoles They also had their own code names.Nintendo was using ‘Project Revolution’ for the Wii, ‘Project Café’ for the WiiU, and ‘NX’ for the Switch, but NVIDIA called it ‘Odin’ before it was released.
