The Resident Evil saga is one of them the most famous and the most popular in the world of video games. It is also one of the best sellers, having accumulated tens of millions of copies sold worldwide.

However, not all parts of the franchise were equally successful. Some games were real bestsellers, others were well received and some achieved rather average results. However, none of them became real flops, at least within the main storylines.

Interestingly, the quality of the delivery was not always decisive for the success of a particular delivery. For example, Resident Evil Code Veronica is one of the best games from the saga and also is one of the best sellers accumulated. On the other hand, Resident Evil 6 was one of the worst in the franchise and sold much better.

The ten best-selling Resident Evils of all time

Today I want to walk you through the history of video games and share with you a list of the ten best selling titles in the Resident Evil franchise. This list is prepared from data obtained from VGSales, a website where you can also find revenue data and platforms which each of these games achieved.

Keep in mind that each title adds up the sales it has achieved in its various versions, unless these are considered remakes. Therefore, it includes cross-platform versions, HD revisions, as well as virtual reality variants, which ultimately remain the same game.

1. Resident Evil 5 with 21.1 million copies sold. This was met with many critics, but the truth is that it brought a fresh wind to the saga with a new setting, new enemies and gameplay in general. I highly recommend it.
2. Resident Evil 6 with 19.74 million copies sold. We can consider it the worst of the franchise, but it was still a huge sales success. I only finished it once and wouldn’t play it again, which didn’t happen to me with the other parts that I finished at least twice.
3. Resident Evil 4 with 14.04 million copies sold. It was a true masterpiece, both for the setting and the successful twist on the action that Capcom provided without falling into the excesses we later saw in Resident Evil 5. In some ways, I like it even more than the remake.
4. Resident Evil 2 remake with 13.97 million units. Along with Resident Evil Remake, it’s the best remake of a classic 32-bit game I’ve seen so far. Basic.
5. Resident Evil VII with 13.39 million units sold. Changing the franchise to a first-person perspective suited him wonderfully, ushered in a new era and was a great success. Different but recommended.
6. The original Resident Evil with 12.35 million units sold. The classic had a large number of versions and re-releases, even reaching the Nintendo DS, and this made it one of the best sellers. It still has a lot of charm.
7. Resident Evil 0 with 9.93 million units sold. One of the most controversial delivery because of the changes it introduced to the game, but good in setting, technical part and story. It is recommended.
8. Resident Evil Village with 9.80 million units sold. It continued the story we saw in Resident Evil VII and retained the gameplay and first-person perspective, although it introduced a new type of enemies. It’s not the best of the series, but it’s fun.
9. Resident Evil 3 remake with 8.72 million units sold. The remake of the late nineties classic was a title with a lot of room for improvement, but it did its job and was well received in sales. It’s worth it, even if it’s not essential.
10. Resident Evil 4 remake with 7.66 million units sold. The latest remake that Capcom has released. It keeps the essence of the original and borders on a good level, but the truth is that I didn’t like it as much as Resident Evil 2 Remake. It is recommended.
