In its early days, each Instagram post consisted of a single image. This means that if you wanted to upload five photos, each of them was a publication. Of course I’m talking about prehistoric times, back 2010, when the social network created by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger first saw the light of day. Originally conceived as a service for the iPhone (which was already the big star of the smartphone market, but also with much less competition from Android and its ecosystem), its growth was quite rapid, and this was amplified in 2012 when the arrival of the official app for Android.

since Instagram hasn’t stopped growing so much in features as well as in the volume of users, it has reached the top 3 most used social networks in the world, surrounded by Facebook (also Meta), which occupies the first place, and YouTube in the third place. In addition, and to Meta’s delight, Instagram continues to attract a very young audience, a goal that the company also set for Facebook, but in which it has so far failed completely.

I won’t go into depth at this point as it’s an aspect I’ve already covered on previous occasions, but in this context I can’t help but mention Instagram’s history with minors, more specifically the proven negative effect it has on them, and how despicable it is to know that although they were fully aware of it, they thought about creating a specific version of the service just for the little ones. Instagram should stay away (whether by its own decision or someone else’s imposition) from a younger audience.

But I return to what concerns us. The photo social network has grown a lot in terms of features over its lifetime, either adding new ones or improving existing ones, and now, as we can read in The Verge, we find one of the other type, namely the Instagram has increased, up to 20, the maximum number of images and videos we can add to each publication. The rollout of this new limit is global and immediate, so if it’s not already available in your account, it should change in an exceptionally short period of time.

Grouping images and videos into one publication has become very popular as it allows include a selection related to any type of activity in one post or an event, because posting each one separately would force us to go to that person’s profile and go through their most recent posts one by one to see all the material related to said event. Now, with this change, we find a great improvement in this regard.
