Elon Musk and Donald Trump were supposed to make a live broadcast on X (Twitter) this Tuesday at 2 a.m. Spanish time (8 p.m. Eastern time). The broadcast promised to be a litmus test for the social network capacity acquired by the businessman of South African origin for 44 billion dollars, and a boost for the Republican presidential candidate, who has not been active on the microblogging network for some time.
However, the live broadcast never started. At the time of writing, the X Space that was supposed to show the conversation between Musk and Trump is not available. A purple window appears, leaving many questions behind. You don’t know exactly what happened, but there’s a possibility that it’s a technical issue. It’s strange that a long-awaited event has been postponed, and it’s somewhat damaging to X’s reputation.
Musk says it was a DDoS attack
When we try to watch the broadcast via the participants’ profiles, we are greeted with a message saying “Details not available”. The gap does not work when clicking on the profile photo of the user accounts either. About 20 minutes before the scheduled start time of the live broadcast, Musk suggested that “a massive DDOS attack occurred on X” and that they were working to fix the problem.
One of the alternatives suggested by the businessman is to launch a live broadcast with the Republican presidential candidate for a limited number of viewers. This would reduce the pressure on X’s infrastructure and allow the transmission to begin. As announced, the test will take place starting at 8:30 AM ET (2:30 AM Spanish Peninsular Time). If this initiative is successful, the interview will be broadcast unedited after it is completed.
The businessman has been running various tests in the last few hours to prepare for the broadcast, including “a test with 8 million simultaneous listeners today.” We have to wait for now to find out if the Space, where the Tesla CEO and the former US president will speak, will work as expected with the measures implemented to address the problems. For now, a large number of users are waiting.
