Now we can get Black Myth Wukong performance test on Steam. We can explore with him how this game will behave on our PCwhat resolution can we play it at, what quality setting and what frame rate can we achieve. This perfectly complements the performance data that NVIDIA provided last July.

It’s a tool very helpfuland I think it’s a great achievement that Game Science released this benchmark a few days before the release of Black Myth Wukong, because that way all those who were in doubt whether to buy the game or not would have malfunctioned. PC will be able to solve these doubts.

We can also see the list of graphics settings it offers and the various technologies it integrates. The black myth of Wukong integrates full ray tracinga very demanding technology that requires a very powerful graphics card and is compatible with NVIDIA DLSS Super Resolution and Frame Generation, AMD FSR and Intel XeSS.

Menu and graphic options

Black Myth Wukong allows us to configure things as basic as screen resolution and vertical sync, and includes other advanced settings that affect graphics quality and performance, such as upscaling and frame generation technology.

Unlike other games, we don’t have NVIDIA DLSS quality, balance and performance modes here, but we can adjust the resolution scaling using the “oversampling sharpness.” The higher the value, the greater the number of pixels rendered, which means higher image quality but less performance improvement.

We can also activate full ray tracing, which includes three different settings: low, medium and ultra. The graphics quality options are well structured and fairly simple and easy to interpret.

Not all of them have the same effect on performance and I can attest to that reduce the quality of reflections and global illumination On a modest device, this will significantly improve the frame rate. We should activate ray tracing only if we have a relatively powerful graphics card, or GeForce RTX 4060 or equivalent.

In these tests, I used a Ryzen 7 7800X3D as the base, 64 GB of DDR5 memory at 6000 MT/s CL30 latencies and a 2 TB Samsung 980 Pro SSD, all running Windows 11. The game was configured in maximum quality with maximum ray tracing and use NVIDIA DLSS Super Resolution 75% and frame generation.

Graphics memory consumption levels are quite reasonable for the level of demand for this game, confirming that we have a generally good level of optimization. Using NVIDIA DLSS helps significantly reduce graphics memory consumptionto such an extent that even with a graphics card equipped with 12 GB of graphics memory, such as the GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER, we can play it in 4K with activated ray tracing without any problems.

Something rather curious happened during my tests, and with the GeForce RTX 4090 at 1080p I found erratic behavior which seemed to indicate a bottleneck, but when I checked the GPU usage I realized that it didn’t experience abnormal drops as it almost always stayed in the 96-99 percent usage range.

The result I got confirms that something was wrong with this 1080p test the performance value was lower than 1440pand the highest memory consumption. The rest of the tests went without incident, so I’m not sure what could have happened. Maybe it was just a bug in the game.

I will leave you a screenshot so you can see all the data of the said test. Like I said, it has to be either some kind of bottleneck or a benchmark bug, and frankly it looks more like the latter than the former, because like I said GPU usage was normal always with regard to the used graphic configuration.

GeForce RTX 40 offers overall very good performance, but note that it is essential to use NVIDIA DLSS Super Resolution and Frame Generation technologies to prevent ray tracing from having a large impact on performance. With these technologies activated, the GeForce RTX 4060 offers quite acceptable performance even at 1440p, a resolution that is not optimal since this graphics card is designed for 1080p.

Recommended graphics cards for each resolution in Black Myth Wukong

From my performance tests, I can clearly say which graphics cards will be recommended depending on the resolution in which we will play, if you use same configuration as me in my tests (maximum quality, maximum ray tracing and DLSS 3 at 75% resolution) and that you meet the recommended CPU and RAM requirements.

  • If we play in 1080p from a GeForce RTX 4060 We will enjoy a good performance, although having a GeForce RTX 4060 Ti will give us more guarantees.
  • In the case of playing in 1440 p we must have a GeForce RTX 4070 to enjoy total fluidity, but if we have a GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER, we get to an ideal level of performance.
  • Keep playing 4K the minimum to exceed 60 FPS is a GeForce RTX 4080 SUPERbut the optimal level in this case is GeForce RTX 4090.

If we disable ray tracing or reduce its quality, frames per second will improve significantly, because the level of demand for the game will decrease. In the end, it’s best to try different configurations depending on the capabilities of your PC, especially if you have a GeForce RTX 30 or lower, models that are not compatible with the generation of NVIDIA frames.

With GeForce RTX 30 and GeForce RTX 20 We can only activate DLSS Super Resolutionso we will most likely need to reduce the raytracing quality to stay above 60fps which will be the recommended smoothness level to enjoy a good experience playing Black Myth Wukong.
