Apple announces that it has surpassed the milestone of 2,500 native spatial apps in the App Store for the Apple Vision Pro glasses.
When the Apple Vision Pro was launched in the US in February, there was a lot of hype. Now, according to IDC, sales seem to have come to a standstill. Apple has reportedly scaled back production of the Vision Pro due to a lack of interest.
This also explains the limited boost in Native spatial Apps for Apple’s mixed reality glasses. Last week, the brand announced that it had exceeded the 2,500 apps milestone. This number is in addition to the 1.5 million compatible iPad and iPhone apps that you can open in a floating window.
2,500 native apps isn’t groundbreaking, but 9to5Mac points to competitor Meta Quest for a fair comparison. The Meta Quest app store today has about 3,000 apps, mostly games.
Apple announced in June that there are 2,000 apps on the platform. This means a growth of 500 native apps in two months. It is unclear whether this rhythm will remain feasible.
The Apple Vision Pro was initially only launched in the USA. The glasses are now systematically offered worldwide in order to expand the market. In the first two quarters of 2024, almost 100,000 units of the glasses were sold each year.
For the third quarter, these numbers would drop sharply, as the hype in the US is apparently over. That’s why Apple is also making the glasses available in other markets. IDC assumes that the milestone of 500,000 units sold will not be reached by the end of 2024, despite the international expansion.
