What happened

A few months ago, Politico began receiving small amounts of classified documents from Trump’s headquarters, with the anonymous source identifying himself as “Robert.”

The leak included:

• A massive 271-page report exposing the public vulnerabilities of Republican vice presidential candidate J.D. Vance.
• Partial dossier on Florida Senator Marco Rubio.
• “Robert” also claimed to have “Donald Trump legal and court documents” and “internal campaign discussions.”

Trump’s campaign says its emails and documents were hacked by “foreign sources” who aimed to “create chaos” and interfere in the 2024 US presidential election.

Any media outlet or news agency that reprints documents or internal communications is doing the bidding of America’s enemies.
Trump campaign spokesman Stephen Chung told reporters.

Chung pointed to an Aug. 9 Microsoft report detailing a June phishing attack targeting an unnamed “senior” campaign staffer using the compromised account of a former adviser.

According to Microsoft, hackers affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps sent a phishing email containing a “fake redirect that directs traffic through a domain controlled by the subject, which then includes a hyperlink to the specified domain.”

The group responsible for this is known by various names: Mint Sandstorm And charming kittenIt was reported on Microsoft. Over the past few years, the same group has been blamed for attacks on the World Health Organization, sending malware-filled holiday greetings to U.S. officials, and many other attacks.

Microsoft said in its report that it has tracked the rise of “significant activity by Iranian actors.” The Iran-linked hacking campaigns differ from Russian efforts “in that they occur later in the election season and use cyberattacks aimed at rigging elections rather than influencing voters,” it said.
