Google is launching the first foldable device in the Benelux countries. The Pixel Pro Fold has to compete against the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold.

The first Pixel Fold may have skipped Belgium at the time of launch, but its successor is worth it. Google announced a new foldable device today along with its new Pixel 9 phones. The Pixel Pro Fold will come to Belgium with 100% certainty, the manufacturer confirmed to us.

Open book

The name of the Pixel Pro Fold is reminiscent of Samsung’s Fold, and Google wants to compete with that device as well. The device has a vertical fold line so that it can be unfolded like a book into a small tablet. Inside is a large 8-inch screen with 2,076 x 2,152 pixels, adaptive refresh rate and a brightness of up to 2,700 nits.

On the outside, the Pixel Pro Fold looks like a regular Pixel. At 6.3 inches, the screen on the front is the same size as the Pixel 9. Again, Google doesn’t skimp on the specs: 1,080 x 2,424 pixels, brightness up to 2,700 nits, and a refresh rate that scales between 60 and 120 Hz. Google gives the device an IPX68 rating, which means the device is waterproof, but dust can be a problem.

Foldable smartphones sometimes have battery issues. Google wants to prevent this by putting a 4,650 mAh battery in the device. According to Google, the battery lasts up to 72 hours if you enable power saving mode, but the Pixel 9 devices last up to 100 hours if you take it easy.

Three cameras are available: a 48 MP main camera is flanked by a 10.5 MP wide-angle camera and a 10.8 MP telephoto lens. Here, Google seems to have had to make some compromises compared to the Pixel 9, although the number of megapixels in a lens doesn’t say everything. All new Pixel devices are powered by a home-grown Tensor G4 chipset.

Not Android 15 yet, but Gemini

We haven’t yet discussed the most important aspect for Google: the presence of Gemini. The AI assistant will be omnipresent on your device to edit images, translate texts or write messages. Before the launch of the new Pixel devices, Google is announcing new Gemini features.

Gemini Live enables voice conversations with the AI assistant on your phone. You can think of this as the reincarnation of the Google Assistant, which was completely sidelined by Google. In Pixel Studio, you get access to the Image 3 image generator and Pixel Screenshots helps you find screenshots of important information on your phone.

The Pixel 9 devices will soon be the first smartphones with Android 15. They will also come with Android 14 at launch. Google is putting the finishing touches on the new version and the upgrade should not be long in coming. The Pixel 9 devices will receive seven software upgrades and seven years of security updates, one of which will already be used up by Android 15.

Price and availability

The Pixel Pro Fold will be available in stores from September 4th. Start saving if you want to buy this device. Both the base model with 256GB storage and the 512GB variant cost an average Belgian net monthly wage of 1,899 euros and 2,029 euros including VAT, respectively.
