At the beginning of August, Google was declared a monopolist by an American judge. The search giant is said to have built up an illegal dominance around its search engine. Justice Department officials are currently considering what steps they could take to ask a federal judge to issue a temporary restraining order against the search giant, according to three people with knowledge of the deliberations, as reported by the New York Times. Various proposals have been discussed, including breaking up parts of Google, such as the Chrome browser or the Android smartphone operating system.

In addition, there are a number of scenarios being considered, including forcing Google to make its data available to competitors or ending its ongoing multi-billion dollar businesses. According to experts, companies, experts and the government are coming together to discuss the proposals.

Judge Amit P. Mehta, who ruled in the antitrust case against Google, is urging the Justice Department and Google to begin proceedings before September 4 so that a resolution can be reached. The hearing is scheduled for September 6.
