Among the many technological advances we have seen in recent years, there are two that have particularly surprised me. One is mobile payments, the other is the miDGT app. And they both achieve the same thing: now I don’t need to carry my wallet everywhere..
Google and Apple know that these options are quite useful and have been working on expanding the options of their digital wallets for some time now. This is certainly the case with Google Wallet, which has been updated once again and now allows you to scan and digitize all types of ID cards and tickets to manage them from the app.
This option was announced at Google I/O and replaces the “Photo” option that appeared in the “Add to Wallet” menu. However, you can create a simplified version of a card that displays a barcode or QR code.
As stated on the support website, the new Google Wallet tool allows us to: Allows you to digitize all types of IDs, cards and documents —Visiting cards, library cards, loyalty cards, passports, roaming permits—to add them to Wallet.
The artificial intelligence system integrated into the application will take into account the sensitive content and mark it as private and prevent its synchronization with other devices. We will be able to manage this classification of documents as private or normal and here the camera of our device will be a way for Google to capture, save and label this data.
Useful function for now Available in the United States onlyWhere the distribution of the said option started happening from the beginning of August. There are no details on if or when this Wallet option will reach other markets, but it seems reasonable to think that it will happen sooner or later.
At Xataka | We don’t have free alternatives to Apple and Google Wallets. That’s about to change, and that’s great news
