The UK Ministry of Defense purchased a quantum computer to see if this technology could improve tanks.
The deal with the agency was announced by the CEO of quantum computing startup Orca. According to him, one of the reasons the Orca product has caught the attention of the Department of Defense is that it can be placed in a regular computer rack. In addition, such systems can operate at room temperature.
But until now, it’s not clear what these computers should do in military equipment. Scientists have yet to prove whether there is a real program for this technology. Orca explained that their system won’t do anything that a conventional computer can’t. However, it is stated that technology can facilitate communication on the battlefield through programs such as image recognition.
