I’ve been using Android Auto for years and I’m clear on what needs improvement

While Apple is my personal ecosystem, Android Auto is my favorite infotainment system behind the wheel. Yes, I think it’s better than Apple CarPlay, but that doesn’t mean there’s no room for improvement. The more I use Android Auto, the more I like it and the more I find its weaknesses.

Yes, since it is a system compatible with so many different models and brands, it is normal for there to be some delays and lags that I have not seen in Apple Carplay, but I miss it too. Features that will take Android Auto to another level.

A better wireless Android Auto

I’ve already said that I use Android Auto via cable, but for short trips around town I’m comfortable using the wireless route. Not only are there many models that are not compatible here and there’s no way around it other than buying an adapter, but experience can clearly be improvedAs I explained in the introduction, I know that it is not just Google’s fault here, but the combination of software and hardware makes everything difficult.

Because sometimes it is relatively common the phone is not recognized, there are blockages, malfunctions and even temperature increases this is unexpected on the route. When you’re driving and relying on Google Maps or Waze to guide you on your route, the last thing you need is for it to freeze. Wi-Fi should be standard now and more reliable.

I want more Android Auto options when parked

Android Auto

I know that watching a YouTube video or a Netflix series while driving is an irresponsible behavior as it is easy for the driver to get distracted, but Android Auto already knows when you are moving and when you park your car, and that would be fine in the second scenario. there would be more options for use. In fact, this already happens in Android Automotive.

For example, when I’m waiting for someone in the car (at the airport for example), in the caravans, you’re going camping and you want to see something in the car or you just have an electric car and it’s in the process of being loaded. It would be nice to be able to entertain yourself with videos using that screen instead of being there on the mobile screen. Yes, I’m talking about Ability to watch YouTube, Netflix, Prime Video, etc.. And why not, even Google Meet: if there is already compatibility with Zoom, you should do the same with your video calling app.

I want to warn about dangers on the road with a voice assistant

Events

If you come across an object on the road and you’re using Waze, you can flag it by tapping the screen a few times, which takes your eyes off the road and one hand off driving. This is dangerous and can also result in a fine. And be careful, because Waze at least lets you do this: You have to use your phone with Google Maps.

Road warnings are essential for a good experienceinforming you about unexpected mishaps such as accidents, controls, radars … so it would be best if these were integrated into GPS navigation devices in general (this depends on each application), but less than adding them to Google’s and it is also done by voice.

Look mom, there is no hand

Because Android Auto uses touch controls too much This poses a problem in terms of security and possible sanctions. Example: When an alert appears, it remains on the screen until it disappears on its own after a certain (long) period of time or until you remove it with a tap.

However, the huge room for improvement that both the interface and Google Assistant have in Android Auto, and Gemini’s AI doesn’t stop there. In this sense, telling the assistant something like “remove notification” would be a small improvement that doesn’t require much effort, that’s all.
