Thousands of Venezuelans demonstrated in major capitals and cities around the world this Saturday against the alleged “fraud” they say was committed by the government of Nicolás Maduro in the July 28 presidential election, and demanding that opponent Edmundo González Urrutia be declared president-elect and winner of the election.

In Caracas, the epicenter of a global call by Venezuela’s largest opposition alliance, the Democratic Unity Platform (PUD), to claim victory in the July 28 presidential election, the reappearance of opposition leader María Corina Machado came as a big surprise.

Machado, after two weeks in which she remained under protection, fearing for her “freedom and her life”, reappeared this Saturday in the already popular campaign truck. She was accompanied by several opponents, such as Delsa Solorzano, Biagio Pilieri or Cesar Perez Vivas and others.

Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado said Saturday that the country’s “greatest civil feat in history” was achieved by anti-Chavismo through its standard-bearer González Urrutia, who she said “brought courage” into the presidential election.

Madrid, the most populous city abroad

The largest demonstration outside Venezuela’s borders took place in Madrid, with nearly 15,000 people filling the Puerta del Sol square shouting “Freedom” and “Down with Maduro.”

The demonstration was attended by Venezuelan leaders in exile, such as Leopoldo Lopez and former Caracas mayor Antonio Ledezma, who in statements to Efe congratulated himself on the international support for the “epic battle” that Venezuelans are waging against the Maduro government.

Venezuelans protest in Rome, London and Brussels

In other European capitals such as Rome, London or Brussels, hundreds of Venezuelans also took to the streets against Maduro’s alleged “fraud”.

Between 450 and 600 Venezuelans demonstrated peacefully in the British capital, displaying copies of the election protocols that would have ensured victory for the opposition candidate.

Several hundred Venezuelans gathered in the Place de la Bastille in Paris in the pouring rain, with other demonstrations also taking place in Lyon, Marseille, Lille, Bordeaux, Bayonne, La Rochelle and Le Havre.

In Brussels, about 250 people gathered in the center of the European capital, the same number as the Venezuelans who gathered in Rome’s Imperial Forums shouting “freedom” and chanting slogans against Maduro.

Colombians protest eagerly await return

Colombia, the country that welcomes the most Venezuelans, hundreds of people gathered in the squares of the main cities, shouting “President Edmundo” and banners “Free Venezuela”, in rallies that united Colombians and Venezuelans in the hope of returning to Venezuela. your country.

There was also a concentration of Venezuelans in the antipodes.
