Will artificial intelligence fundamentally change everything?

Let’s examine the internet example

AI is technology, and humans determine the fate of technology. Add AI to a bucket and you get an AI bucket. Add AI to a dictatorship and you get an AI dictatorship.

Humans will assign tasks to AI. Humans with limited natural intelligence, with emotions, passions, prejudices.

I remember how they promised that the Internet would fundamentally change everything. After all, now all the knowledge of humanity will be available to every person. There will be no more lies, because it will be easy to check the facts. There will be no more ignorance, because it will be easy and fast to get the necessary information. There will be no more prejudice, because it will be easy to get acquainted with alternative views on any issue.

Aha. Something that was unlikely to happen happened like this (crossed out).

It takes 5% of human populations one generation to reach the next level of thought (and this happens very rarely and is accompanied by extreme pain or at best extreme effort). If you take the human scale, the change per generation is 1%. At best. There are generations where it is not plus one, but minus one. Even minus five.

We are where we are today thanks to the countless generations of our ancestors who gave us fire, myths, rye, the wheel, cows, houses, potters, cities, states, writing, courts, philosophy, bureaucracy, universities, printing, science, industry, medicine, cinema, the internet, and a thousand other things. Despite the revolutionary nature of each of these changes, they only moved humanity up 1% at a time.

The internet has changed almost all our business processes, eliminated some professions and business models, and created others, but it has not changed us. Despite the giant leap of globalization, the number of people with a global mindset (solidarity circle = all humanity) seems to have remained the same in the last 30 years.

Technology is in the hands of people, not the other way around

Artificial intelligence will change almost all of our business processes, eliminate some professions and business models, create others, but it will not change us. Because technology is in the hands of humans, not the other way around.

What can influence people? School, church, university, rule of law, economic freedom, mass entrepreneurship, liberal democracy, civic activism, youth organizations, mass culture, poverty reduction, sustainable peace. You can try to add a few more points to this list. Technology affects all this very indirectly and not always positively: for example, online learning at school or university gives more than pluses (although the Internet makes additional education more accessible, but this is only a value for those who have basic education).

So don’t expect revolutionary changes from robots and AI. Revolutionary changes are made by people, and as the experience of the Iranian revolution proves, they are not always for the better.
