Palestinian group Hamas He said On Sunday, a new proposal aimed at bridging the gap between Israel and the Islamist militant group over a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip was too close to the Israeli prime minister’s recent positions, Benjamin Netanyahu.

Hamas’ statement came just hours after US Secretary of State Antony Blinken arrived in Israel in an attempt ensure a ceasefire in Gaza and an agreement to release the hostages, which weakened hopes for a quick breakthrough in the negotiations.

Hamas received a new proposal from mediators Qatar, Egypt and the United States after a two-day round of talks in Doha.

Hamas said the new offer was in line with Netanyahu, who refuses to end the war and withdraw Israeli troops from the Gaza Strip, including the border with Egypt, two conditions the group sees as the basis for any deal.

“We hold Netanyahu fully responsible for the failure of the mediators, for the delay of the agreement and for the lives of his prisoners, who are exposed to the same danger as our people due to his ongoing aggression and systematic attacks on all aspects of life in the Gaza Strip,” Hamas said.

“We ask the mediators to take on their responsibilities and force the occupiers to implement what was agreed upon,” Hamas said, adding that it was fully committed to the previous July proposal. (Reuters)
