Does your PC not meet the mandatory TPM 2.0 for Windows 11? Soon it will no longer be possible to install Windows 11 using a backport.
Since the beginning of Windows 11, the presence of a TPM 2.0 (Trusted Platform Module) required to upgrade to the latest version(s). Where there’s a will, there’s always a gap and there was a way to install Windows 11 without a TPM. Microsoft will fix this issue with a future Windows Update.
An X user named Bob Pony noticed in a Canary update that Microsoft will further tighten the requirements for Windows 11. Through a setup.exeinstallation It was possible to pass the checkpoint, but this gap is closed irreversibly. If Windows cannot detect TPM 2.0 on your device, Windows will not work.
With its strict hardware requirements, Microsoft has excluded many PCs from Windows 11. It’s not always clear why these requirements exist, but Microsoft is standing firm, even if the restrictions ensure that Windows 11 adoption remains low. Windows uses TPM 2.0 to embed BitLocker encryption at the hardware level.
In addition to TPM 2.0, for example, your PC’s processor must not be too old and there must be sufficient RAM. Other requirements that Microsoft attaches great importance to are the POPCNT instruction and Secure Boot. Every gap discovered opens up for Microsoft sooner or later.
The latest Canary version of Windows 11 also removes limitations. External storage will no longer be capped at the arbitrary limit of 32 GB. It remains to be seen when these adjustments will be implemented across the board. In the meantime, Microsoft is preparing to roll out Windows 11 24H2. This year’s major feature update is expected in the fall.
