Goodbye to four cores, the Intel Core Ultra 3 will have 8 cores

Intel Core Ultra 3 processors will form basic range within the Intel Arrow Lake-S family, but they will not be introduced on October 10th, as they will not have a K version, they will only be available in non-K and F versions. This may be the reason why we have had so little information about them until now.

Thanks to a new rumor, we know that Intel could surprise us with a very important change in the new Core Ultra 3, namely that for the first time these processors, which follow the Core i3, will have a configuration eight cores and eight threads.

Intel Core i3 came to the market with a configuration of o two cores and four threads. With the arrival of Core Gen 8, they jumped to four cores and four threads, and the launch of Core Gen 10 marked a jump in configuration four cores and eight threads.

These processors have always used the same architecture as their older brothers and with Intel Core Ultra 3 the same strategy will be maintained even though this generation will use a hybrid design which Intel introduced with the first generation Core Ultra, better known as Meteor Lake.

Intel Core Ultra 3: four P cores and four E cores

This will be the design that Intel will adopt to achieve this 8-core configuration. These new processors will be divided into blocks four P nuclei based on the Lion Cove architecture and will have other four cores of E based on the Skymont architecture.

As I told you when I dived into both architectures in the Intel Lunar Lake special, Lion Cove will improve IPC by up to 18% compared to Raptor Cove, but the biggest improvement this generation is in the E cores, that They are almost equal to CPI Raptor Cove.

This is important because it means that although the Intel Core Ultra 3 will have this split of P cores and E cores, it will actually improve a lot in performance and multi-thread capacity compared to the previous generation. To give you a little more clarity on what this represents, I’ll give you a little more context and that the 8-core Intel Core Ultra 3 could ultimately offer performance similar to Intel Core i5-13400.

The launch of these new processors will take place alongside the rest of the non-K Arrow Lake-S range, which brings us directly to first quarter of 2025. They will also be accompanied by new LGA-1851 motherboards with H870, B860 and H810 chipsets, which will be much cheaper and aimed at the mid-range and low-end.
