The Raspberry Pi 5 will have a cheaper version with 2 GB of RAM on board. The new version is now available.
The all-in-one Raspberry Pi board is now in its fifth version and is still popular for learning programming and physical calculations. Unfortunately, the price has increased with each version due to the higher computing power and additional options.
The Raspberry Pi 5 with 4 GB RAM costs 66.95 euros. The manufacturer is now expanding the range to include a cheaper variant. The entry-level model with 2 GB RAM costs 56.95 euros. Both prices include VAT.
The 2GB version isn’t the only thing that has changed. It also has a new Broadcom processor, the BCM2712D0. Its functionality is identical to the Broadcom chip on the other boards, the BCM2712C1. The only difference is that the cheaper version has physically removed some features that were already disabled on the more expensive models. Both still have a Cortex-A76 chip with four cores on board, running at 2.4 GHz.
This new chip allowed the manufacturer to offer the Raspberry Pi 5 at an even lower price. This is not a bad thing, because compared to the Raspberry Pi 4, the latest model has become on average 20 euros more expensive. For those who work with one device, the price remains democratic. If you want to realize larger proof-of-concept projects and need dozens of devices or use many devices in a school, you have to take this difference into account. If 2 GB of RAM is more than enough, you can save a lot.
You can order a Raspberry Pi 5 with 2 GB RAM starting today for the recommended retail price of 56.95 euros. The version with 4 GB RAM costs 66.95 euros. The top model with 8 GB RAM costs 87.95 euros. All prices include VAT.
