American company Sceye announced the completion of new tests of stratospheric airships. The beautiful, silver devices are universal communications platforms that cover large areas with low population density to provide communications and Internet services to local residents without building towers.

During a daytime flight on August 15, the Sceye stratospheric airship demonstrated the ability to charge its batteries in daylight using a system of flexible solar panels and then use that energy to stay aloft all night at an altitude of 18,500 meters.

According to the company’s plans, while the stratospheric airship is in the air (probably for several months), it will also be able to perform tasks such as providing broadband internet to remote communities, conducting climate and environmental monitoring, and tracking wildfires and other natural disasters.

The Sceye stratospheric airship has already completed 20 test flights, with two more scheduled for late 2024. If successful, the company Sceye plans to make its devices available for commercial use in 2025.
