Brazilian researcher and 3D designer Cicero Moraes, who specializes in digitally reconstructing the appearance of ancient people, recently recreated the appearance of a mummy known as the Screaming Woman.

The mummy was found in the archaeological complex of mortuary temples and tombs on the west bank of the Nile Deir el-Bahri in 1935. It lay in the family tomb of Senmut, the revered favorite of the famous Queen Hatshepsut, ruler of the New Kingdom of Ancient Egypt (XV century BC).

Using the mummy’s CT scan data, Morais created different versions of the woman’s face, one of which is objective, with her eyes closed and in sepia tones to avoid judgments about skin and eye color.

Another image is more subjective: it shows a woman in the color and wig in which the deceased was buried, regardless of how she may have looked when alive.
