Will we soon be talking about Microsoft 365 Copilot, Microsoft 365 Copilot in Word, and Business Chat? According to anonymous sources, Microsoft is making name changes.

Microsoft is reportedly juggling some branding changes for enterprise customers. Anonymous sources said the current name “Microsoft Copilot for Microsoft 365” would be renamed “Microsoft 365 Copilot,” according to Tom Warren of The Verge. Microsoft’s individual productivity apps are included, as well as the chatbot in Microsoft 365 Copilot, which will be called “Business Chat.” The name changes will reportedly roll out in September in conjunction with new features for Microsoft 365 Copilot.

Name change

Microsoft has a tendency to write its product names in complex terms and then reduce them to a shortened version. This has happened in the past, but now the tech giant seems to want to do the same with Copilot. Tom Warren of The Verge knows through anonymous sources that some name changes are on the table.

“Microsoft Copilot for Microsoft 365” would be reduced to “Microsoft 365 Copilot.” In addition, the individual Microsoft productivity apps that use Copilot would also see a name change. These will become more complicated: “Copilot in Word” will change to “Microsoft 365 Copilot in Word,” says Warren. For business users who work with the chatbot in Microsoft 365 Copilot, they will soon be referred to as “Business Chat.”

The name changes will reportedly be introduced in September of this year. Microsoft would also combine this launch with the introduction of new features for Microsoft 365 Copilot later in 2024. Exactly which features are involved is not yet known.
