As you already know Samsung has announced the launch of the Galaxy Ring in some marketsat the summer Galaxy Unpacked 2024 held last July. It wasn’t a particularly surprising announcement, as we already officially knew about the new wearable from the Korean tech company since the previous Galaxy Unpacked (in January this year) and even got to see it at Mobile World Congress 2024, last February.
Although there have been some leaks before, Samsung has adopted a communication model somewhat different from what we are used to in the gadget market, changing the usual secrecy until the last minute to reveal its next big launch soon. In this regard, there will be opinions for all tastes, but personally I think Samsung got it rightsince it would probably be impossible for him to avoid leaks, so he preferred to start generating anticipation while maintaining a great deal of control over the Galaxy Ring’s information flow.
So when we arrived in early July, we were left with little information about the ring. We had to confirm that the previously leaked prices were correct and of course know which markets it will debut in. And yes, we were a bit disappointed here as we were expecting a more ambitious plan that didn’t materialize in the end. Although, in all honesty, we can now understand that it had less to do with their expectations than their production capacity, because All stock was sold out on the day it went on sale..

So is everything good when it comes to this new wearable? Unfortunately not. And as we could already assume and confirm today, The Samsung Galaxy Ring is completely beyond repair. That’s what they tell us in the GSMArena, which reflects the disassembly of the same carried out by iFixit (which recently “broke up” with Samsung), which brings us as a great conclusion that we are talking about a disposable device, use and throw away (although it is understood that its the lifespan will of course be long).
The reason for this is not hard to understand, just look at its design to understand that all its electronics are encased in a one-piece chassis (the ring itself). For a better understanding, this is a unibody design. And that brings us to the element that plays the most important role in the durability of this type of device: its battery. So when time and use causes it to degrade to the point where the ring becomes unusable, it will not be able to be replaced because it was not designed with that capability in mind.
don’t get me wrong I think Samsung did a great engineering job with the Galaxy Ring. However, while I understand that we are talking about the first generation of a fairly new device, I think that Samsung (as well as the rest of the manufacturers, current and future, in this market) should be more careful in this regard. We can forgive it for now, but if the second generation Galaxy Ring stumbles over the same stone, we will be talking about something much worse.
