Now Israel Attacks Lebanon; Hezbollah Announces ‘Air Strike’ in Response

Army Israel attacked Lebanon after it was said that the Shiite group Hezbollah was “preparing to launch a large-scale attack on Israel.”

The Israel Defense Forces said Hezbollah would allegedly launch rockets and missiles into Israeli territory.

“In response, forces are attacking terrorist targets in Lebanon,” the Israeli military said in a statement.

“We warn civilians in areas where Hezbollah operates to immediately flee the danger for their own safety,” the army added.

As Israeli authorities threatened these attacks, anti-aircraft sirens continued to sound in the border area with Lebanon.

Magen David Adom’s emergency services raised their “alert status to the highest level in the entire country,” although they have not yet received any reports of casualties.

Hezbollah announces retaliatory ‘airstrike’ on Israel

The Lebanese group Hezbollah announced the launch of a large-scale retaliatory “air strike” against Israel using “a large number of drones” aimed at “high-quality Israeli targets” inside the country.

The group made the announcement in two statements released early Sunday morning, in which it also said the attacks carried out in the first phase “went according to plan” and reached at least eleven military bases both inside Israel and in the Golan Heights, artillery positions and barracks.

Hezbollah has expressed solidarity with the Islamist group Hamas over Israel’s constant bombing of the Gaza Strip since October last year, and violence on the Israel-Lebanon border has since escalated to the worst escalation since the 2006 war.

Add to this that Hezbollah, an ally of Iran, has promised to carry out a large-scale attack on Iran. Israel takes revenge for the murder of its commander Fuad Shukr. It happened because of the Israeli bombing on the outskirts of Beirut on July 30.

At least 636 people have been killed in border fighting since October, most of them on the Lebanese side and within Hezbollah, which has confirmed 392 deaths.

In total, at least 586 people were killed in Lebanon, including more than 124 civilians, while in northern Israel, 49 people were killed: 23 soldiers and 26 civilians, including 12 minors, in an attack in the Druze town of Majdal Shams in the occupied Golan Heights. (EFE)
