Even though I have an eBook that I can read eBooks on, I forget it in the drawer and I don’t remember to charge it. After all, I almost always rely on my Android phone read before bedone of the most enjoyable moments of the day. During these years, I have tried many of the best applications for reading books using Google OS, among which Moon Reader is one of my favorites.

But I was looking for a different experience and if possible free software: I’ve already replaced ‘Google Apps’ and even the native camera with Open Source alternatives. After some searching I found this: This app has everything I didn’t like – mainly ads and payments in-app– He has nothing. It has become indispensable now.

This is Librera, an Open Source app for those who love to read

To find real gems in the form of Android apps, just browse repositories like GitHub. There are all kinds of them: customization, settings, news, weather, clock, calls, etc. I thought it would be hard to find. e-book readerand it certainly was.

But after discovering “Librera” I have a new favorite reading app for a long time. Clean and simple interfaceOrganizing by folders, access to recent books, and the ability to mark them as favorites: with these features I keep my book library under control.

Android Library

It is probably not one of the most aesthetically pleasing, as it does not follow Material You’s guidelines, but it is functional, to say the least. From its home screen, it gives you an overview of the content stored in my mobile memory.

One of the best utilities is its side menu: Filter books by format (compatible with 14+ file types, including pdf, epub, doc and more) and customize its operation in detail. Do I prefer navigation tabs at the bottom? I can change it.

Bookcase

Of course, and because it can’t be any other way, the reading experience can be changed to our liking: the screen orientation, font size, light or dark theme and even the brightness level (we can make it go up or down as we enter a book).

As if that weren’t enough, Librera displays the covers of downloaded books in a grid to find them faster. It also has a great function to help you avoid losing your library, which is essential if you’ve been collecting books for years: Sync with Google Drive.

There are several options to download: the official repository on GitHub (which also gives access to the ‘Pro’ version without payment), the Google Play Store or F-Droid. Although Librera Pro is free to download from its repository, we have to pay 5.49 euros for the ad-free version in the Google store.
