Several French websites were hit in a coordinated cyberattack by Russian hacking groups, causing significant outages and temporary service suspensions. Public services websites, as well as Confédération paysanne, ANSM, Doctolib and Voix du Nord websites were also among those affected by DDoS (distributed denial of service) attacks.

The attacks have been linked to pro-Russian hacker groups. UserSelect, RipperSec, Holy League And Cyber Army Now.

Why was Pavel Durov detained?

Durov, the founder of the popular Telegram messaging app, was detained by French authorities at Le Bourget airport on August 24, 2024, on charges of drug trafficking, fraud and complicity in crimes against children.

French authorities have warned that more DDoS attacks on the country’s websites are possible as tensions rise following Durov’s arrest.
