A few years ago, Crytek announced Crysis Next, a project that generated a lot of interest due to the importance that the Crysis franchise has always had in the world of video games. First delivery It was a technical level reference, in fact, it was so demanding that a direct conversion to Xbox 360 and PS3 was impossible. This had to come many years later with important changes and cuts.

The fact is that the project ultimately did not materialize and ended up being canceled without much explanation. Now that a video of 13 minutes of actual gameplay has leaked, it’s easy to see why Crysis Next was never finished, as it was a project that really It had nothing to do with the original franchise.

If it was released it would happen big failureand it would also damage Crytek’s reputation and the image of the Crysis franchise, so there’s no doubt that canceling it was the best thing that could have happened.

Crysis Next was almost a Fortnite clone

You can see in the video that Crysis Next was a species shameless copy of fortnite which was also “inspired” by other games for the concept of certain aspects, such as character classes, where we see details taken from Call of Duty Infinite Warfare and other well-known multiplayer titles.

It’s curious because this game was born as a Crysis spin-off that tried to distance itself from the franchise as much as possible to become something original that would bring freshness to the franchise, but in the end it was a lazy copy of the famous Epic Games gameflat, simple and as generic as possible.

I am aware that the video is from the beta version, so the graphics are not ready and there are still many things left to polish, but that doesn’t change anything, the essence of the game, its approach and aesthetics are perfectly appreciatedand as I said before, it has no place in the Crysis universe.

Crysis 4 is still in development

This game was announced in January 2022, but since then again we heard nothing of this project. I imagine it will continue to develop and given the times we are in, it may end up being an exclusive game for PC and the current generation of consoles.

There are still many unknowns surrounding Crysis 4, so much so that I dare not guarantee that its development will be successfully completed. We have to be positive and wait. We’ll see if Crytek can think of making an official announcement about the status of this game.
