The return of the Note surname to Samsung phones could become a reality with the arrival of the next Galaxy S26

The official presentation of the new Samsung Galaxy S25 is still months away, but Rumors about the new generation have not stopped– Recent leaks suggest that the Galaxy S25 will have a slightly larger display than previous generations, and a design change for the Galaxy S25 Ultra seems quite likely.

Although the Galaxy S25 has not yet reached the market, rumors about the name of the devices are starting to emerge, such as the Galaxy S26. From what we can read in an article published by GSM Arena, the South Korean company may choose to change its naming strategy.

The reason Samsung wants to use the Note surname may be related to the S Pen

The information comes from leaker Yogesh Brar, who has stated on X (formerly known as Twitter) that the company could start using the Pro and Note surnames, freeing one of its most popular models from the storage drawer. If these rumors are confirmed, Galaxy S26 Ultra was supposed to be Galaxy S26 Note.

One of the reasons behind this possibility It could be related to Samsung’s S Pen. While this accessory was initially associated with the Galaxy Note series, it’s now compatible with a wide range of devices, and the Galaxy S24 Ultra itself includes it. The S Pen is especially useful when taking notes or doodling on your phone, and using the Note branding can help emphasize that point.

Google had a weird name for the Fold, but they're not the only ones. I hear Samsung could do the same. The Ultra could be called Note, the Plus could be called Pro. Which sounds better? Galaxy S25 Ultra or Galaxy S25 Note?

As for the Pro surname, the company will use it instead of the Plus surname. So I mean this Galaxy S26+ will be called Galaxy S26 ProThis would be a quite logical move, especially if we take into account the importance of the Pro surname in the mobile lines of the main manufacturers: we find it on Xiaomi, Vivo, Google Pixel phones and the iPhone.

At this point it is important to keep this in mind. We are not faced with official information. It’s also not clear exactly when this change will happen: the leaker initially mentioned the Galaxy S25 Note, but in a later message he indicated that the change would likely come with the launch of the Galaxy S26.

This is not the only case of a company deciding to change the name of its devices. In fact, Leaker talks about the status of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold: While the original Pixel Fold was separate from the other devices, Google decided to make it part of the main family from now on. The new generation consists of four different members: Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold.
