Anyone who wants to get started with the stable version of Android 15 will have to wait longer than initially thought. Google is aiming for a launch in mid-October.

Since the third beta version of Android 15 at the end of June, Google has been using the term “platform stability”. The search giant is using this term to indicate that all features for the next mobile operating system are included. Those who participate as beta testers will receive stability updates in the meantime. Google will incorporate the results of each test version into the next version until everything is stable enough to make Android 15 available to all users.

However, anyone who has just bought a new Pixel 9 or another device with Pixel 6 or newer will have to wait a little longer before they receive Android 15. Google is now reporting to current testers that the final stable version of Android 15 is not expected until mid-October. That is later than expected. The lack of stability of the latest test versions is slowing down the ambitions to come to market sooner.

Is your Pixel phone (or other eligible model) participating in the beta program? From now on, you can ignore new updates within the program to seamlessly upgrade to the stable version of Android 15 starting in October, without a factory reset.

Anyone who installs the updates will automatically participate in the further development of Android 15 after the stable release and will remain a beta tester. Do you then want to switch to the stable version? In this case, a factory reset is mandatory. The current firmware update makes this clear so that you do not accidentally make the wrong choice.

The source code will be available next week

According to Android Authority, independent Android platform developers will have access to Android 15 source code starting next week.

Android 15 includes many interesting new features. It adds a private space to your phone and lets you lock apps behind an additional PIN code. The new operating system also has an anti-theft feature that automatically detects when someone steals your phone from your hand.

Other new features include augmented reality in Google Maps, more secure phone connections and calls, and the integration of third-party trackers into the Find My Device network.
