Windows 11 24H2 update brings changes and optimizations so important that it is able to improve the gaming performance of Ryzen 7000 and Ryzen 9000 processors on average. up to 10%. Unfortunately, this update is only available on the internal channel and will not arrive on the general channel until October.
Microsoft and AMD didn’t want to keep users waiting so long, so together they found a solution against time. This solution has finally arrived and it has done so in form optional upgrade for Windows 11 labeled as KB5041587.
This update for Windows 11 23H2 includes all optimizations in the jump predictor which were exclusive to the 24H2 version, which means that by installing it we will enjoy a significant performance improvement in games if we have a Ryzen 7000 or Ryzen 9000.
AMD emphasized that they expect this update to bring performance improvements similar to that offered by Windows 11 24H2. That means it could be the same or slightly lower, but either way it’s good news. This update is now available and can be downloaded from “Windows Update > Advanced options > Optional updates”.
Why did they wait for Windows 11 23H2

Since the performance improvement applies to both Ryzen 7000 and Ryzen 9000, I can’t help but ask this question. AMD could work with Microsoft shortly after the launch of the Ryzen 7000 introduce an update to optimize the work of the jump predictor, and thanks to this, it would be possible to improve the performance of these processors in games much earlier.
However, AMD did not let two years pass and only now, after the controversy that arose due to the results obtained by Ryzen 9000 in some analyses, they decided to take action in this matter and optimize the jump predictor in Windows 11 so that their last two generations of processors work better in games.
As I said, this is good news, any free performance improvement yes, but I don’t understand it why now and why not two years agowhen the Ryzen 7000 could benefit from this performance improvement. I don’t have an official explanation, but there is a pretty interesting rumor that points directly to Spectre, a vulnerability that was patched a long time ago.
Patches to address this vulnerability are rumored to have significantly affected the performance of AMD processors, and the optimizations introduced by KB5041587 and 24H2 are all they do. compensate for the loss of performance.
