Zoom is introducing smart name badges that literally give participants a name card during a Zoom Room meeting.

Zoom is launching the public beta of “Smart Name Tags,” which the meeting platform aims to improve engagement and inclusion in Zoom meetings. These smart name tags are attached to participants in the Zoom Room using AI, allowing virtual participants to instantly see who is in the physical room. Individual users can register and grant permission through their profile.

Zoom is adding smart name badges to Zoom Rooms, where participants in the physical room are given a name badge. This allows virtual participants to instantly see who is in the room, even if those people aren’t speaking. Zoom says this would improve inclusivity. This gives virtual participants a greater sense of being present and connected to all participants.

Especially in situations where participants are meeting for the first time or collaborating with external parties, the badges can help them connect and collaborate quickly. The smart name badges can be added to participants manually, or AI can help by automatically recognizing them and making labeling even faster.

Smart badges can be enabled through admin settings. Users can then register and grant permission through their profile. This way, the badges will automatically appear in the Zoom Room video feed. The badges can then be edited if needed.
