One in 10 minors in the US say their friends and/or classmates have used artificial intelligence (AI) to create nude images of other boys or girls.according to a survey published in August of this year thorna non-profit organization whose mission is to protect children from sexual abuse.

The survey, conducted online from November 3 to December 1, 2023, showed surveyed 1,040 minors aged 9 to 17 about child sexual abuse material and “harmful online experiences.”

In 2023, 7% of minors reported sharing sexual images of another person, but nearly 20% reported viewing intimate images of others that they shared without consent.

In its latest publication, Young People’s Views on Online Safety 2023, the organisation notes that “The methods young people use to create and distribute explicit images are evolving.”

“With the tools of generative artificial intelligence at our fingertips, Young people are creating ‘deepfake’ nude bodies of their peers. Although most minors do not believe that their classmates behave in this way, “About one in ten minors reported that they knew of cases where their peers had done this.”the study notes.

“One in five teenagers (aged 9 to 12) reported having had sexual contact online with someone they believed to be an adult,” the article adds.
