LG Display is preparing to provide micro-OLED displays for Apple’s second-generation mixed reality headsets. This will be a brand new device from the Cupertino company.
LG Display is reportedly already ordering equipment for micro-OLED displays from Sunic System. The source says LG Display is part of the first-generation Apple headset supply chain, but will not provide the company’s home screen at this stage. Sony will be the main supplier. But with the second-generation headset, LG hopes to get mainstream orders. This is said to be in Apple’s interest, as Sony’s own PlayStation VR will indirectly compete with the company’s headset.
Late last year, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that Apple is working on a second-generation version of the headset that will offer a lighter design, better batteries and performance. But we haven’t even seen the first generation yet.
