HP sees PC sales rising again, printers remain declining

After the low point, the PC industry is recovering, and HP is benefiting from this. The manufacturer is once again recording a significant increase in sales of its commercial devices. Printers are taking the opposite step.

HP has published its latest financial figures. The figures were initially received cautiously: sales rose by two percent compared to the previous year, but net profit fell from 766 million to 640 million dollars. Shareholders are showing little patience and the share price has fallen by several percentage points.

Nevertheless, HP had good news to report. The company’s PC business had a strong quarter. Although HP is no longer limited to computers, they remain the company’s most important source of revenue. Sales of business devices rose by eight percent to $6.68 billion. The consumer market is not following suit, with a decline of one percent.

Out of the valley

The PC industry is recovering from some difficult years and HP is benefiting from it. After the 2021 financial year, when the Corona pandemic gave PC sales a boost, 2022 and 2023 saw a reality check. CEO Enrique Lores is convinced that the impending end of Windows 10, among other things, will force many companies to renew their PC arsenal.

In addition, HP is fully involved in the marketing hype surrounding the Copilot+ PCs. The first model with Qualcomm Snapdragon Bot Powered by AI experiences. HP also plans to launch models with AMD Ryzen AI 300 and Intel Lunar Lake once the chips are ready.

Printers are not restored

The printing sector will not be able to recover for the time being. Revenues in this sector have fallen by a further three percent. The largest share of this is from printed products. Lores explains that companies are “more conservative” with their budgets and an office printer is apparently not at the top of the shopping list.
