2024 Journalism Excellence Awards Winners with Honorary Citations
Cartoon and Illustration Award: “The Drug for the Zombie Plague” by Ezequiel Omar Garcia, Rolling Stone, Argentina. Recognized for its originality and aesthetics in addressing the drug problem, inspired by Pieter Bruegel the Elder’s painting “The Triumph of Death”.
Honorable Mention: “Freedom of the Press”, Raul Fernando Zuleta, El Espectador, Colombia.
Current Affairs Coverage Award: “Paper Estradas”, Metropoles Editorial, Brazil. For investigating the misuse of public funds in Brazil, revealing cases of corruption from the Bolsonaro government to Lula da Silva.
Honorable Mention: “#Narcofiles: The head of the prosecutor’s office (Mancera-Barbosa)”, Cuestion Pública Editorial, Colombia.
Claudio Paolillo Prize for Immigration Journalism: “Nothing is impossible. The odyssey of a Venezuelan migrant in the United States”, Agence France Presse. He is known for his humane approach to the migration crisis in Venezuela.
