People who subscribe to Microsoft Copilot aren’t getting what they want. Not our words, but those of Marc Benioff, CEO of Salesforce.
Salesforce will report its quarterly financial results tonight. It’s a scary time for technology companies this month, but Salesforce has done pretty well, with shares up as much as four percent at one point before eventually slipping into a two percent loss.
Much more memorable than the numbers is CEO Marc Benioff’s statement. He hit out directly at Microsoft and its copilot. “Many customers are so disappointed with what they bought from Microsoft because they don’t get the accuracy and response they want,” said Benioff. “Microsoft has disappointed customers with AI.”
Not copilots, but agents
Salesforce therefore deliberately avoids using the term “copilot” for recently announced AI features (although it does have Einstein Copilot in its ranks). The company prefers to speak of “agents,” Benioff clarifies. “These are not copilots. These agents are autonomous, can act precisely, are ready to use immediately and can get started directly from the platform.”
According to the company, Salesforce’s AI assistants are characterized by their ability to perform concrete actions for the user. An “AI agent” such as the Einstein Service Agent, introduced in July, is deeply integrated into the Salesforce Data Cloud, where it retrieves all the necessary data and translates it into concrete actions. This system is not limited to pre-programmed questions and is able to understand the specific context of a customer.
