IBM will offer Intel’s Gaudi 3 AI accelerator through the IBM Cloud. The accelerator is intended to offer customers an alternative to Nvidia hardware to support AI workloads.

IBM will offer the Intel Gaudi 3 AI accelerators as a service in the IBM Cloud. This service is expected to be available in early 2025 and aims to cost-effectively scale AI solutions for enterprises.

IBM Cloud is the first cloud provider to adopt Gaudi 3. The company will support Gaudi 3 in both hybrid and on-premises environments. In addition, Gaudi 3 will also be supported within IBM’s Watsonx AI and data platform.

By deploying Gaudi 3 within IBM’s Watsonx platform, customers gain access to additional AI infrastructure to better scale AI workloads in hybrid cloud environments.

Alternative to Nvidia

The collaboration between Intel and IBM is intended to reduce the total cost of AI workloads for customers. Finally, Gaudi 3 offers an alternative to Nvidia’s accelerators, which are both expensive and difficult to obtain. The Gaudi 3 AI accelerators run in the IBM Cloud together with fifth-generation Xeon processors.

By leveraging the security and compliance capabilities of IBM Cloud, organizations can use the Gaudi 3 service to develop AI solutions that meet high security and compliance requirements, with IBM targeting adoption in highly regulated sectors.

IBM Cloud with Gaudi 3 is expected to be generally available in early 2025. Intel and IBM companies will provide further updates on the collaboration and advancement of their AI strategies in the coming months.
