The Deni Diderot Committee (Paris, France) has launched a petition to impose European Union sanctions on two Russian pay-TV operators NTV + and Trikolor, which broadcast using Eutelsat satellites.

According to Ukrinform, this was reported by the National Television and Radio Broadcasting Council with reference to Committee coordinator Andre Lange.

“This fact allows the EU and the European Satellite Organization (Eutelsat IGO) to sue,” the statement said.

It was noted that these two Russian operators withdrew at least 10 international information and analytics channels from their offers and continued to broadcast RT News despite the EU ban. The sanction could free up satellite capacity that could be used to fill international news channels, Ukrainian broadcasters or Russia’s opposition sanction media.

Lange (who is also head of the European Audiovisual Observatory section of the Council of Europe) said the petition was signed by many European colleagues (university professors, media professionals, etc.).

The National Council invites representatives of the Ukrainian media community to participate in signing the petition. Required documents – at the link.

The Denis Diderot Committee was established as an informal network in March 2022 and is open to all who demand peace in Ukraine, the restoration of the free flow of information, the prohibition of war propaganda, and solidarity with Russian civil society fighting for freedom of expression. .

As Ukrinform reported, the UN Human Rights Council adopted an action plan to combat misinformation at its 49th meeting on April 1st.

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the start of a full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
