We have been hearing about the death of consoles for years and the truth is that these are nothing more than nonsense comments because not only are they not dead but today Still having a good time and there is really nothing to support the idea that they can die in the short or long term.

However, even though the reality is so clear, you already know how easy it can be. to manipulate situations and reality itself create a narrative that fits the interests of a particular party. That’s exactly what happened with the issue of the death of consoles according to Mike Ybarra, the former president of Blizzard.

Ybarra is clear, consoles will never die and those who think otherwise are just making up a narrative that interests them for some reason. It is not without reason, although in fairness it must be recognized that they have appeared during the last two decades many new ways to play that we couldn’t imagine at the time, like cloud gaming and smartphones.

Importantly, these new ways of playing did not come with the goal of ending consoles, but what they do is precisely supplement them. You only have to look at the sales that the Nintendo Switch has achieved since its launch or the huge success of the PS5 to realize the reality and that thinking that consoles are dying is nonsense.

The value of consoles continues to shine

And that won’t change. I’m a gamer both PC and consoleand my first steps as a video game lover were made possible by arcades and the venerable Atari 2600, so I was lucky enough to experience much of console history first hand.

The evolution of consoles over the nearly 40 years has been spectacular. There are things that have been done very well and others that have been done so-so, but on balance they have managed to remain a mainstay in the industry and offer great value to those who want to enjoy video games in a simpler way.

You already know it on the console we don’t have to worry about requirements games or hardware upgrade and that the user experience is also easier than on PC. The value of hardware for the sale price is usually very good during the first half of its life cycle, depending on the system we can enjoy exclusive games that do not always make it to PC.

I’m sure consoles will continue to evolve transform and adapt to reality at any moment, but I agree with Ybarra, I don’t think they will ever die.
