US regulators on Friday gave the go-ahead SpaceX The probe will continue to launch its powerful Falcon 9 rocket this week after suffering a rare mishap during the landing of the launch vehicle’s first stage. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has grounded the rocket Falcon 9 Wednesday after a first-stage launch vehicle overturned and exploded while trying to land a drone off the coast of Florida.

The early morning launch was successful, placing the final batch of 21 internet satellites into orbit. Starlink.

“The SpaceX Falcon 9 vehicle may return to flight while the public investigation into the Starlink Group 8-6 anomaly remains open, provided all other licensing requirements are met,” the FAA said in a statement Friday.

A webcast from Elon Musk’s company showed the first stage, which normally fires its engines to achieve a precision vertical landing, tilting and deflating as the drone descends off the coast of Florida.

While landing the launch vehicle is a secondary objective and no lives or government property are at risk, the reusability of the entire rocket system is critical to SpaceX’s business model.

It broke a more than three-year streak of hundreds of successful launch vehicle landings.

The Falcon 9 is the workhorse of the SpaceX fleet, trusted by the U.S. government and private industry to launch satellites and astronauts into orbit.

It was last grounded for about two weeks in July when an anomaly occurred in its second-stage engine that prevented it from positioning another group of Starlink satellites at the correct altitude, causing the satellites to burn up upon re-entry into Earth’s atmosphere.
