One of the biggest advantages of always having your phone with you is having something to write on, and while Google Keep is a great app for doing that, it never really convinced me. Considering the number of apps available both on and off the Google Play Store, it’s worth looking into alternatives. Especially if you’re like me, you’ll enjoy them. open source initiatives and getting rid of ads.

I did that, and the result couldn’t have been better: I found a completely free app that converted me because of its simplicity, its good work, and its open source. In fact, Notally has become a must-have on my phone and I have reasons why.

What is Notally and how does it work?

I often come up with ideas for articles, and they don’t always get me with something to write about outside of my phone; the same goes for thoughts in general, or when someone recommends a book or a restaurant. Yes, Google Keep is fine, I just have a Telegram channel where we share things with each other, but sometimes I just want to take notes, simplicity and agility.

I found it on Notally, which is available for free on the Google Play Store and also on GitHub. You just need to install it and it worksbecause you don’t need to register or log in. The design is extremely simple, so there are no complications and you don’t need any prior training to get the most out of it, and its appearance tends towards minimalism, something that helps because you don’t get bombarded with ads or encounter ads every time you shop a step. But you can configure interesting details like font size or what fits.

The advantage of this is that the configuration is minimal, but this has one consequence that should be taken into account: it does not allow you to save your notes and transfer them to another device. stores everything locally (I use Telegram to share myself with my computer, my other mobile phone or my tablet) this may be interesting for those who love privacy.

From here on out, there’s no learning curve: you open the app, hit the ‘+’ button and create the note. There are two options here: either make it a list of tasks to check off, or a blank sheet of paper. Of course, just because it’s so easy to use doesn’t mean there aren’t some extras that allow you to enjoy a more complete experience; can add pictures or record audio.

These are easy to find for basic use with just a few notes, but they get easier as you go along. I create tags, in my case I have some tags for business or personal recommendations.
