The iPhone 16 finally has a release date. Apple has confirmed that it will hold a presentation on September 9 where we will see the company’s rumored new smartphones. The new iPhones are expected to feature major changes inside and out, including better cameras and a new design.
Apple chose the following slogan for this event:This is the Time to ShineIt seems to be a reference to the artificial intelligence features that these devices will include through Apple Intelligence. The invitation design actually consists of the company logo surrounded by Siri colors, which will also be powered by artificial intelligence.
But the iPhone 16 isn’t the only product we could see unveiled on September 9. The Cupertino-based company could also announce other next-generation products. It’s everything we’ve come to expect from an Apple event.
1. iPhone 16 series
The star of the event will undoubtedly be Apple’s iPhone. Or rather, iPhones. Apple is expected to launch four new iPhone 16 models, starting with the basic iPhone 16 and 16 Plus. They will have a slightly updated design compared to their predecessors, the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus. They will still maintain the shape of the current models, with a matte rear glass and flat frames, but the design of the camera module will be similar to the vertical iPhone X.
On the other hand, Apple may prefer the A18 chip for these models, a processor that can run all the artificial intelligence features that will appear with iOS 18.1.
Moving on, we will see the launch of the new iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max. The Pro model will not have any major design changes compared to the current models, except for a thinner front bezel. This will allow Apple to accommodate a larger screen, 6.3 and 6.9 inches diagonally, respectively. As for the processor, Apple would opt for the more powerful A18 Pro chip for these models.
This year, all iPhone 16s will feature Action Button support. This is a customizable shortcut button on the side of the phone that Apple introduced on the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max last year. The iPhone 16 series is also expected to feature a camera-focused shutter button.
2. New Apple Watch Series 10
Apple is also expected to introduce its new Apple Watch Series 10 smartwatch at the event. The new series of smartwatches are often tagged alongside new iPhones. Rumors suggest that the new wearable could have a thinner body and slimmer bezels. Apple could also introduce a new 49mm size similar to the Apple Watch Ultra.
3. AirPods 4
As expected, AirPods will also be one of the stars of Apple’s September 9 event. Apple is expected to announce new mid-range and entry-level (non-pro) AirPods 4 models to continue competing in the true wireless earbuds market.
One of these will have similar features to the current third-generation AirPods, while the other variant will have active noise cancellation but will have slightly lower specs than the AirPods Pro and could be sold for a lower price.
Finally, it wouldn’t be surprising to see an update to the AirPods Max, which could have improved features over the current models, including a USB-C port instead of a Lightning connector, Bluetooth 5.3, an H2 chip for added features, and new colors.
4. Apple Intelligence
Apple will be focusing on AI from WWDC through its September event, with dedicated Apple Intelligence features for the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro models. It has previously been reported that Apple Intelligence will play a key role in the announcement of new devices, and we expect to see what features the company has planned for the new devices that haven’t yet seen the light of day at the company’s WWDC event in June.
5. iOS 18 and other software updates
Shortly after the event, Apple will release build candidates for iOS 18, iPadOS 18, macOS 15, watchOS 11, tvOS 18, and VisionOS 2 to developers in the final wave of beta testing. The updates will be released shortly after, with devices set to hit shelves by September 20.
The new software updates will include all the features the company announced earlier this year, including several AI features that Apple announced at its WWDC event.
6. How to watch
As always, Apple will be streaming its latest event on the Apple Events website, YouTube, and the Apple TV app. Apple already has an event scheduled on its YouTube channel. You can click the “Notify Me” button to be notified before the broadcast begins.
