Last July, AMD introduced the new Ryzen 9000 and of course the 800 series chipsets, i.e. X870E, X870, B850 and B840, from his hand. As happens in the vast majority of generational jumps in processors, they usually come with a new generation of chipset, which, in addition to allowing the system to get the most out of the new integrated ones, also brings compatibility with the latest technologies.

This year, unlike what happened in previous years, the launch of motherboards for the Ryzen 9000 series was slightly delayed in terms of the marketing of its motherboards, but fortunately there was no need to wait too long, as the first models from the major manufacturers they started coming to market sooner rather than later. Now we were still waiting that major brands have started expanding their catalogs in this regardand today we find a huge movement in this regard with Gigabyte, which has just introduced no less than six new motherboards with the X870E and X870 chipsets, adding to the previously existing ones. This is the complete brand design for this AMD generation:

As you can see, we are finding suggestions based on two top-level chipsetsbut they cover an exceptionally wide range of options, from the absolute top of the range to much cheaper options, making this new generation much easier to access.

Let’s recall, as we told you at the time of its announcement, what each of these two chipsets offers:

  • AMD X870E: top of the line with PCIe Gen5 support on GPU and NVMe drives, mandatory USB 4 interface, CPU and memory overclocking and additional PCIe lanes for multi-GPU configurations.
  • AMD X870: High-end, with PCIe Gen5 support on GPU and NVMe drives, mandatory USB 4, CPU and memory overclocking and additional PCIe lanes for multi-GPU configurations.

As you can see, both support the same generations of the most used technologies, so the main difference is that the E version has better overclocking support and is therefore the most recommended for users who choose components that also respond adequately to the modification of working frequencies.
