According to a report by Axios, OpenAI has reached more than 200 million weekly active users, doubling the number of users since November 2023. In addition, the company stated that 92 percent of Fortune 500 companies use its products, highlighting OpenAI’s leadership among generative AI chatbots and its growing importance in the business world.

ChatGPT at the top

OpenAI has announced some new figures that further underline its market dominance. For example, its chatbot ChatGPT has reached more than 200 million weekly active users, doubling since November 2023. In addition, 92 percent of Fortune 500 companies, a ranking of American companies based on their annual revenue, are said to use its products.

In addition, usage of its automated API has doubled since the release of GPT-4o mini in July. The company recently announced that it reached a record two million paying subscribers in one month. “People now use our tools as part of their daily lives, making a real difference in areas like healthcare and education – whether it’s helping with routine tasks, solving difficult problems, or unleashing creativity,” CEO Sam Altman said in a statement to Axios.

ChatGPT remains a major player among generative AI chatbots, but more and more competitors are hot on its heels. For example, Google recently released custom Gems chatbots based on the Gemini model, something ChatGPT has been offering for a long time.
