We’ve heard a lot of rumors lately that Apple is working on a mixed reality headset that is expected to combine AR and VR technology in one device. While there are few details about it, the new report states which company can produce screens for the headphones, according to rumors.

Citing sources, Elec said that LG Display plans to design and manufacture a MicroOLED panel for Apple’s mixed reality (MR) device. The Korean tech giant is expected to order MicroOLED deposition equipment from Sunic System.

According to the report, Apple can use Sony’s MicroOLED panel to display the first MR device, while LG Display will provide an external display or indicator that will be a regular OLED panel. The new Apple MR headset is expected to hit the market in the first half of next year.

By all accounts, LG Display is aiming to provide a MicroOLED panel for the next-gen Apple MR headset. Considering that the first-gen MR headset is still just a rumor, that’s pretty optimistic.

Apple is likely to switch to LG Display as it can compete with Japanese tech giant MR and sells PlayStation consoles that go hand in hand with virtual reality devices, the report said.

If you are unfamiliar with the term MicroOLED, some clarification may be required. MicroOLED is somewhat similar to a typical OLED. However, the first installs the OLED on a silicon substrate, and the second – glasses. This technology is also known as OLED on silicon or OLEDoS and is expected to be more widely used in virtual, augmented and mixed reality products.
