You already know that Microsoft and Qualcomm are trying to push the Windows platform again on ARM to counter the success of Apple’s Macs. Microsoft will release specific Surfaces, and all of its hardware partners will do the same with variants of their notebook lines. 8-core Snapdragon X Plus

It seems that history will repeat itself and it is logical that the new chips are intended for the entry-level range of this platform. Comparative results they are not good. In Cinebench 2024, the new chip scored 102 points in the single-core test, which is five percent less than the 107 points scored by the 10-core Snapdragon X Plus. In the multi-core benchmark, it scored only 649 points, which is 20 percent less than the 809 points scored by its more powerful counterpart. Blender and Geekbench scores were also quite low.

And even worse in GPU-specific tests. In 3DMark Time Spy, the Adreno X1-45 GPU fell in the middle of what the Snapdragon X Elite offered. In 3DMark, the Steel Nomad GPU scored 1,159 points with just 8.6 FPS, about 40 percent less than the X Elite. In real games like Shadow of the Tomb Raider, which was released six years ago, the results were disappointing: 18 FPS averages at 1080p and at the lowest quality.

It is clear that this group of products, limited by emulation, is not dedicated to games or tasks that require a lot of graphics or computing power. To be fair, he doesn’t intend to either and has a long way to go. In any case, and as a very personal opinion, it’s impossible for me at this point to recommend this platform over an offering from Intel or AMD, let alone if they mount dedicated graphics. We will see in the future.

New 8-core Snapdragon yes, it will allow price reduction computers. A price that has been quite high until now. Leaked Lenovo models, notebooks and convertibles, talk about a selling price between 800 and 900 euros. We will discover them at the German IFA trade fair.
