For the past few days, the OneNote Windows app seems to no longer sync properly. Users see an empty notebook or a message saying that the content cannot be accessed.
A user reports in the Microsoft forum that the problems occurred after performing a Windows update. An online repair of Microsoft 365 or uninstalling and reinstalling OneNote does not help.
Microsoft acknowledges the problem and says it is working on a solution. Notes will continue to be accessible via the web version of OneNote, an employee confirmed in a response to the forum.
Applying an update to Windows is always a somewhat anxious wait, but in recent weeks the updates seem to have been very chaotic. An update in early August caused OneNote, Word and Outlook, among others, to crash as soon as you started typing in the app.
The August 13 monthly Windows security update made things even worse. The update could overload your device’s CPU, which could lead to visible performance degradation or even complete system crashes. In this case, the only solution is to uninstall the update.
