American space company Blue OriginThe company founded by Jeff Bezos is preparing to begin the final phase of rocket launch preparations New GlennThe second stage was delivered to the launch complex in Florida.
In two weeks Blue Origin plans to conduct a static-fire test of the missile’s upper stage, powered by two BE-3U engines. New Glenn will then send two relatively small ESCAPADE mission spacecraft toward Mars on its first launch. The launch window is open from Oct. 13–21.
It is not yet clear whether there will be time Blue Origin Integrate, test and launch ESCAPADE. By this time, the company must successfully test the second stage engines and then transport the first stage to the launch complex at Cape Canaveral.
The plan is to connect the second and first stages of the rocket and add a payload fairing to the interior of the spacecraft, before conducting a brief static fire test of the first stage.
The program is ambitious because the final integration of the stages is often when new missiles present their major problems. Finally, Blue Origin engineers will attempt to recycle the first stage for future reuse. Featuring a fully reusable first stage, New Glenn is expected to be able to carry up to 50 tons of payload into low Earth orbit.
