Available in the Gmail web and app, Google’s Gemini helps paying users compose, summarize, and retrieve email conversations.

Google recently introduced its Gemini in Docs, Sheets, Slides and Drive. In June, Google’s Gemini 1.5 Pro model was placed in the side panel of Gmail. Paying users can therefore take advantage of Gemini’s help in searching for email conversations or composing and summarizing emails. In addition, Gemini is connected to Workspace apps and the chatbot can also pull information from them. Now Google has announced that it will also introduce the “Gmail Q&A feature” in the Gmail app for Android users.

Email Assistant

Gemini in Gmail helps users navigate their emails and find answers faster. For paying users, a Gemini chat window now appears in the Gmail sidebar. Here you can ask for a summary of an email conversation, suggest replies to an email conversation, or get help composing an email. In addition, you can ask targeted questions to get specific information from your inbox or Google Drive files.

Gemini gives you proactive cues to help you get started, but you can also ask open-ended questions like, “When is the next team meeting?” This way, you can quickly find the information you need without leaving Gmail.

Connectedness

Workspace apps like Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Drive connect to Gemini in Gmail. This allows users to ask Gemini to look up specific information in a Google document and then process it into a response through Gmail.

Gemini is available for Gmail on the web, but also in the Gmail mobile app for Android, where the feature is called Gmail Q&A. This app version offers similar functionality to the sidebar in the web version of Gmail, allowing users who are on the go to easily summarize time-consuming email conversations or quickly look up information. According to Google, the feature will soon be available on iOS as well.

The feature is available to Google Workspace customers with a Gemini Business and Enterprise Add-on, Gemini Education and Education Premium Add-on, or Google One AI Premium.
