Starting next year, the design platform Canva will significantly increase its prices for Teams subscriptions to 90 euros per year per user.

Design platform Canva recently notified its customers of a significant price increase on a Teams subscription. The email to its customers states that starting December 27, 2024, prices will increase to €90 per user per year, with a minimum of 3 team members. This brings the total annual subscription to €270. Canva, which was originally known as an affordable and user-friendly alternative to companies like Adobe, attributes the price increase to growing generative AI tools.

Price increase

Canva notified customers of the Teams subscription price change in an email, explaining: “As we continue to improve Canva, we have changed the price of our Canva Teams subscription to €90.00 per year per person (minimum of three people).”

Existing users with a Teams subscription will be offered a 30 percent discount on this new price for the first year, which would make the subscription €189.00/year for the first twelve months. After that, the price of the Teams subscription will increase to €270 per year, based on the current number of users.

Generative AI tools

The reason for the significant price increase is due to the growing generative AI tools the design platform offers. Canva wrote in its email to customers: “This change will allow them to continue building great products like our Visual Suite, Magic Studio, brand management tools, and other highly requested features.”

Canva started out as an affordable product that was an alternative to Adobe, for example. It appealed primarily to small businesses, who thus had a comprehensive toolbox of design options at their disposal. With this price change, Canva seems to be deviating from this image.
