HMD has introduced its Fusion smartphone, which it calls a modular device. The novelty supports special interchangeable covers that can increase the functionality of the device, for example, by adding support for wireless charging, strengthening protection or adding better lighting for the rear camera.

The back covers are attached to the device using the Smart Pins communication system. The manufacturer offers the opportunity to create custom covers for the Fusion using 3D printing. The company has published all the necessary tools and documentation on its website. HMD will start selling branded cases for the Fusion in the fourth quarter of this year.

HMD Fusion is assembled in a translucent plastic case and features increased maintainability. The smartphone provides quick access to the battery, display, and other key components. HMD also promises to offer replacement parts through iFixit for the next seven years.

Fusion is equipped with a 6.56-inch IPS display with a resolution of 1612×720 pixels and a refresh rate of 90 Hz. On the front of the novelty is a 50-megapixel camera. The main camera unit consists of a 108 MP sensor and a 2 MP sensor for calculating the depth of the scene. The main camera is equipped with electronic image stabilization (EIS), supports night shooting mode and AI HDR.

The HMD Fusion is powered by a Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 processor (two 2.2 GHz Cortex-A78 cores, six 2.0 GHz Cortex-A55 cores, Adreno 613 GPU). The device offers 6 or 8 GB of RAM and 128 or 256 GB of permanent memory. The volume of the latter can be increased by supporting microSD memory cards. Everything runs Android 14. HMD promises two years of operating system updates and three years of security updates for the device. The autonomy of the device is provided by a 5000 mAh battery with 33 W fast charging. The HMD Fusion will first go on sale in Europe. Its price will start from €249.
